Alexcyril Sporting Dogs is a specialized home breeder located in the Rocky Mountain foothills near Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We've owned Blue Picardy Spaniels since 1994 and bred our first Blue Picardy litter in 1999. We've imported top championship bloodlines from France since the year 2000.

We take great care in planning our breeding program, focusing on health, temperament and natural ability. All sires and dams are from established dual field/show backgrounds and have appropriate health clearances. Our puppies are home raised and receive daily attention and socialization. We temperament test our puppies and evaluate them for field potential. All our dogs are registered with the Canadian Kennel Club.

Your home will certainly gain character, personality and an enviable reputation with your neighbors and hunting buddies if you have a Blue Picardy Spaniel. The breed gives the immediate impression of bursting with health and vitality. Comparatively speaking, the breed is generally free of physical problems and is a very well "put together" dog. They have an athletic build with powerful muscles and sound conformation. Blue Picardies generally don't forget their training in new situations and are well behaved around groups of people. They are not compulsive barkers and are friendly with unfamiliar people or other dogs. Since we first associated ourselves with this breed, we have not had any issues with aggressiveness.

Aspects of this breed that separate it from some others is its natural ability and intensity. The Blue Picardy Spaniel is a versatile sporting dog that has the ability to completely block out anything that would distract it from its purpose. Yet, while the Blue Picardy is all business in the field, it is a calm and engaging family companion in the home. The breed has a retriever's joy in packing things and is happiest when it has something in its mouth (stick, ball or toy), or a game bird of any sort within its nose. They are a natural water dog with webbed toes and they love to swim.

A Blue Picardy Spaniel is both intelligent and biddable. They learn quickly, want to please, and demonstrate good reasoning ability. They will also do things they know they shouldn't when they think they can get away with it, like check the kitchen counter tops for snacks. A Blue Picardy Spaniel will bark when strangers arrive, but then greet them happily. While they may occasionally exhibit a loud 'yip' when excited or playing, their territorial bark is deep and authoritative.
